Glass fiber is often used as a reference to illustrate the various properties of PTFE. PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is the abbreviation of polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as the King of Plastics. Consistent with the raw materials used in vacuum cleaners, professional masks, commonly used mobile phone casings, shavers, car lights, etc. It can be made into tubes, rods, belts, plates, films and other forms. The material cost per unit area of PTFE is 7 times more than that of the glass fiber.

BlueSKy's customized H14 filter media is a porous PTFE membrane.

PTFE FilterHEPA Filter

There are six main filtering mechanisms for air filters. For small particles, the leading role is interception.The smaller the pore size of the filter fiber, the larger the surface area, the more significant the interception effect, and the more significant the effect of removing sub-micron particles.

Exploring the most penetrating particle size of PTFE and glass fiber through experiments, the experimental results are: the most penetrating particle size of PTFE (the smallest dust diameter that can be filtered) is about 0.075 microns, and the glass fiber filter is about 0.14 microns. According to the principle of mathematical integration, the efficiency curve and the area enclosed by 100% can represent the total number of penetrating particles. The smaller the area, the less the total number of particles allowed to pass through, and the higher the filtration efficiency. It is understood that the diameter of dust is less than 5 microns, and it can directly penetrate the alveoli and enter the blood of the human body with breathing, while PTFE can filter more and smaller dusts and protect the human body with greater strength.

The unique chemical properties of PTFE, when used in the field of air purification, in addition to higher purification efficiency, compared with glass fiber, it can also achieve the following outstanding advantages:

a. Strong permeability and small wind resistance make power consumption lower ;

b. Longer service life, thereby reducing the frequency of replacing consumables ;

c. Lower wind resistance, lower power consumption ;

d. Longer service life.

How to achieve low wind resistance under the premise of satisfying 99.99% filtration efficiency?

PTFE film has the characteristics of being thin & thin. Under the microscope, magnify 3000 times to check the physical structure of PTFE film and glass fiber:PTFE membrane fiber diameter: 0.05-0.2 microns; thickness is about 10 microns. That is, there are 100 million holes per square centimeter, and the tip of a ballpoint pen can accommodate 1000-2000 holes. With the same membrane pore strength, the fiber diameter of glass fiber is 2-25 times higher, and the thickness is about 500 microns, which is 50 times that of PTFE membrane. Therefore, to meet the same dust filter efficiency, the thickness of the filter material made of glass fiber must increase.

What effect will this physical property have on wind resistance?

The air pressure is determined by the air density of the unit space. After meeting the same dust filter efficiency and the same air flow rate, after passing through the two filter media of PTFE membrane and glass fiber, the residual pressure is that the pressure loss of the PTFE membrane is about 1/2 of that of the glass fiber. . At the daily wind level, the wind resistance of glass fiber is 350PA, and the wind resistance of PTFE membrane is 80~120PA, which is about 1/3 of that of glass fiber.

Power loss is determined by air flow, pressure loss, air supply efficiency, and operating time. Therefore, the lower the pressure loss, the lower the power consumption. Therefore, the choice of PTFE as the material of the super filter is in line with BlueSky’s concept of "energy saving and environmental protection".

During the experiments, the PTFE is boiled in concentrated sulfuric acid for 60 minutes and still intact, and it shows that it has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and stable chemical structure. In addition, compared to glass fiber, foreign matter of the same strength is used as a scratching stimulus, and the result is that PTFE is not easily damaged.
