HEPA Post Motor Filter for DC50 Vacuum Cleaner Replaces Part # 965080-01

I was shocked to hear that the dust in my house contained all kinds of harmful chemicals. Can you tell me what they are and what kind of health damage can they do?

Researchers from five institutions, including the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), conducted a survey of peer-reviewed medical literature published since 2000 and analyzed the results of 26 studies that investigated indoor dust in the United States. Chemical substances in existing consumer products. They found that typical household dust contained an average of 45 chemicals. Of the all samples studied, 90% found 10 potentially harmful compounds. The author describes the house dust as “a parking lot for chemicals at home” and warns us to inhale them and transfer them by hand to our food or mouth.

Investigators warn that young children are at higher risk of exposure to these chemicals than adults because they crawl or play on the floor and put their hands in their mouths. They are also more susceptible to the harmful effects of toxins on health because their bodies and brains are still developing.

The chemicals identified are from televisions, furniture, beauty and cleaning products, and flooring materials. Here are some overviews that can lead to health problems:

Environmentally friendly phenols: They are used as preservatives in shampoos, lotions, cosmetics, and reusable water bottles and detergents. They are also associated with reproductive system toxicity and hormonal damage.

Flame retardant: used in furniture, baby products, electronics and building insulation. They can cause reproductive and nervous system toxicity and hormonal damage.

Phthalates: Used to make plastics softer and more flexible, especially in vinyl flooring, vinyl shutters and food packaging. Personal care products and aromatic products may also contain these chemicals, which may interfere with reproductive development and cause hormone disruptions.

Perfume: found in cleaning products, personal care products, perfumes, candles and air fresheners. Their health effects are unknown.

Researchers say you can wash your hands and children's hands often and reduce the chemicals that are exposed to dust - always before eating. They recommend using regular soap and water to avoid the use of aromatic and antibacterial soaps. In addition, they recommend wiping with a damp cloth, using a wet mop to periodically cross the floor and using a vacuum cleaner with a High Efficiency Particle Capture (HEPA) filter.
