What is a "HEPA" vacuum Cleaner?

High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuums differ from conventional vacuums in that they contain filters capable of capturing particles of very small micron size.A true HEPA filter can capture 99.97% of air particles larger than 0.3 micron.To illustrate how small it is, human red blood cells are typically between 6 and 8 microns wide.

Why use a HEPA vacuum Filter to remove lead dust?

Lead dust particles in the air are about 2 or 3 microns in size, and settled dust can be anything larger, all the way down to a full-size paint chip.While any household vacuum can pick up a paint chip, the average household vacuum emits particles smaller than 50 microns, meaning the vast majority of the smallest and most easily diffused particles are being blown back into the air.

If I use a HEPA vacuum to clean the surface, does that mean it doesn't have lead dust?

HEPA vacuums will pick up loose dust from the surface, but residual lead dust is likely to remain on the surface and should be cleaned with a wet wipe or cleaning method.

Are all HEPA vacuums the same?

What to consider when buying a HEPA vacuum?

1.  Consider what you do with your vacuum cleaner.In general, a good can vacuum will do most household cleaning, while a more industrial vacuum may need to be cleaned after a renovation.To clean a carpet, consider using a power head for a vacuum cleaner.

2. Vertical vacuum cleaners are often not very good in structure, leaking more exhaust gas, and difficult to be used for vertical surface cleaning.

3. Look for a vacuum with a pre-filter stage before the main HEPA filter.The vacuum pre-filter will help prevent fouling from directly impacting and clogging the HEPA filter, which is usually expensive to replace.

4. Check the washer in the vacuum housing to prevent air leakage, which may bypass the filter.Although many manufacturers talk about how good their hepa filters are, the vacuum that leaks out of the air before it enters the filter is not very effective.

5. Find a vacuum with a HEPA filter behind the motor.If the motor passes through the filter, the motor will discharge carbon particles from the brush inside the motor

6. Look for a vacuum bag with a dust flap or label inside and pull up the opening of the bag to reduce the release of dust when replacing the bag.Avoid using a "bagless" vacuum or one that collects dust in a cup or container.These tend not to seal tightly and release a lot of dust when emptied.

8. HEPA filters should not be allowed to become wet and should not be applied to dust water or wet debris.

9. Make sure the wand has a suction control or vent to control the strength of the suction.

10. Avoid vacuum and "water filtration" as they are not HEPA replacement filtration.

11. You shouldn't be able to see or smell dust when using a high-quality HEPA vacuum Filter, although most odors do will not be blocked by HEPA filters.
